Empowering Young Farmers: EC Gambling Board Supports Agro Avenue’s Growth

The Eastern Cape Gambling Board (ECGB) continues to make a positive impact in local communities through its funding initiatives that promote youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods. One of the recent beneficiaries, Ms. Zandisa Mrwebi, a young and passionate farmer from Tshatshu Village in Lady Frere, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Board for its support in helping her grow her agricultural business, Agro Avenue.

In a letter dated 30 June 2025, Ms. Mrwebi thanked the ECGB for its generous contribution, which included essential farming resources such as feed for pigs and chickens, 200 broiler chicks, 100 layer chicks, a chicken plucker, six infrared lights, a layer cage, and other vital supplies. These resources have already made a significant difference in her day-to-day operations, improving productivity and strengthening the foundation of her business.

“The support I received has had an immediate and transformative impact on my farming operations. These resources not only strengthen the foundation of my business but also inspire me to dream bigger and work harder toward a sustainable and thriving agricultural venture.”

As a young farmer navigating the challenges of entering the agricultural sector, Ms. Mrwebi noted that the Board’s intervention has given her renewed confidence and motivation. She highlighted that the support has not only enhanced her capacity to produce but also positioned Agro Avenue to contribute meaningfully to food production and job creation within her community.

“Your investment in my future and the future of South African agriculture means so much. I look forward to making you proud through hard work, growth, and positive impact.”

The ECGB’s community development initiatives aim to promote socio-economic growth by empowering individuals and small enterprises, especially in rural areas. Through targeted support like this, the Board demonstrates its commitment to building sustainable communities and fostering entrepreneurship among the youth.

Ms. Mrwebi’s story is a testament to how dedicated support can unlock potential and help young people significantly contribute to the province’s agricultural and economic development.
